Dramatic Readings with Barbara Bates Smith

Over the past few months I have been developing a performance
of dramatic readings based on Red Clay, Blood River with a well-known regional actress, Barbara Bates Smith. Noted for her Off-Broadway performance of “Ivy Rowe” from Lee Smith’s Fair and Tender Ladies, Barbara currently tours with her adaptations of a number of Lee Smith’s works, as well as her own work (”The C-Word”) and other plays (”Wit”). The themes and characters of Red Clay, Blood River spoke strongly to her, so she has very generously developed these scripts from the book’s narrative. We recently presented these dramatic readings at the Haywood County Public Library, Waynesville, NC, to a packed audience of over 90 people, accompanied by Jeff Sebens, a master luthier from Cana, VA. We are now arranging for other performances.
